G96 Purple Takes Second Place in the North Huntington Beach Cup 2011

The ladies on G96 Purple fought hard throughout the North Huntington Beach Cup, going into the finals as the only team with 3 wins and 0 losses.  They gave their all in the finals and left their opponent with a battle they will not soon forget.  After taking the finals game through regulation with a 1-1 score, then two subsequent OT periods, the ladies on G96 Purple battled through with skill and grace losing to a last minute goal scored by their opponents in the final 15 seconds of the game.  Making it to the finals in this competitive tournament against some very skilled CA teams is a great accomplishment for our girls!  Let's give it up for the ladies on G96 Purple!!  GO REIGN!!

STORM 97 GOLD finishes 2nd in Vancouver

Storm 97 Gold, finished 2nd in the 2011 Summer Slam in Vancouver, WA during the weekend of August 26-28th.

The Storm finished 1st in their bracket and advanced to the Semi-Finals where they manhandled Riptide 3 – 0 to reach the finals.

In the Finals they had an opportunity to avenge a Friday night loss to LH Impact, however playing their 5th game in a 48 hours period was a bite much and they took home the silver medal instead of the gold.

The 97 Gold played strong all weekend scoring 7 goals on their way to the final.

crossfire BU16 Storm White

Congratulations to the FWFC Storm 95 White for winning the 2011 Crossfire Select Cup! Over the course of three days of hot weather, the boys played five games. They scored 8 goals for, and only allowed 3 goals against!

Congratulations to the FWFC Storm 95 Green for winning the 2011 Sounders FC Starfire Cup! Scoring a total of 14 GF and allowing only 3 GA throughout the tournament these boys earned the respect of many. The finals brought both Storm and TOFC (Thompson Okanogan Football Club of Canada) to the field for a second time. The result, TOFC shut out by Federal Way's own Storm 2-0.
Beaverton Cup

FWFC Storm 95 Green won the Boys U16 Gold level.  With a total of 18 GF and giving up only 2 GA, these boys showed that they were there to win.  Topping both brackets out with the highest points @ 29pts, the boys advanced into the semi finals to face off with HSC Chivas (Hillsboro Soccer Club).  They took a grass field for the first time in this tournament only to be met with a downpour of rain and a team determined to win as they had a home field advantage.  That didn't stop our Storm....the result, FWU Storm 2 - HSC Chivas 1.

Once away from the field, the boys gathered to dry themselves and settled in to watch a little World Cup 2011.  Cheering on the USA, the boys prepared for what would be a home away from home faceoff.   FWFC Storm was to be matched against locals Seattle United B95 Copa in the finals.  The boys took the field at 3:30pm and by 3:45 we already had 4 goals.  At the completion of the game it was Storm 6 - Seattle United 0.

Storm 99 Boys Meet Sounder's James Riley

The Federal Way Storm 99 boy’s soccer team recently had the amazing opportunity to spend an afternoon with Sounder’s defender James Riley.

Riley, the Sounder’s starting right back for their first two seasons in Major League Soccer, accepted an invitation from Storm player Edward Yu to meet the team at the Tobang Korean Restaurant in Federal Way.

Riley began the afternoon with a 25 minute question and answer session with the excited parents and players.  Many of the questions were about the experiences that led the Right sided defender to a successful professional career, first with the New England Revolution and now with the Sounders.   The underlying theme to all his answers:  hard work and preparation.  Riley attended Wake Forest University, and says his education there, both on the field and in the class room, have prepared him for both a professional soccer career and for a life beyond soccer after he retires.  In fact, Wake Forest coach Jay Vidovich had put Riley and his team mates on a fast track to graduate a semester early, so that when the New England Revolution drafted him with the 21st overall pick of the 2005 Super Draft, Riley was free to go straight to the Revolution’s training camp instead of worrying about finishing his senior year.

After the Q & A session, Riley graciously and patiently signed each and every item, picture, and piece of paper that was put in front of him, and smiled and posed for every photo request.

Autographs finally finished, James relaxed and simply hung out with the Storm players, who bombarded him with a variety of new questions, from “what do you like to eat on game day?” (Lots of fruit), to “Which Sounders player is best at Call of Duty: Black Ops?” (James rates Kasey Keller as the best in the squad).  After about forty minutes of hanging out with the team, it was time to call it a day. It’s fair to say that none of these boys will easily forget their encounter with James Riley, who despite being a star soccer player for the hottest professional sports team in town, also happens to be a very likeable, generous, and down to earth guy.
